Senior Spotlight: Girls XC Captains

The Girls Cross Country Team gathering around for a team meeting before the races commence.

Maria Orta, Lettie Ringer, and Margaret Whitmer are the Senior Captains of the Girls Cross Country Team. They have all dedicated their time and talent to the team and throughout the hard, stressful times with COVID.

The girls cross team has faced many injuries this year, yet they still persisted throughout their season. Even with the injuries and COVID stunting some motivation, Margaret Whitmer, Maria Orta and many of the other girls still made many memories this year and all of their years running. Some of these memories include the teams annual camping trip and their weekly pasta parties before their meets on Saturdays. The team has found much joy bonding together. All of the captains expressed that the best part about being captain is the growth they have seen within all of the girls not only as runners but as people.

“We have really carved out our place in competitions and been dedicated to our growth together,” says Margaret Whitmer. They are so proud of the team and will cherish all the time spent running and being part of the Riley Cross team.

Thank you Maria, Lettie, and Margaret for the contributions you have made to the team and for all of your hard work throughout your high school careers. Congratulations on a successful season.
