What’s Trending: Upcoming Movies (Spring/Summer)

Welcome back, Wildcats! I know I said that we’d be back to the same old same old, but I couldn’t resist this. There are so many fantastic movies that’ll be hitting the big screens this year, and it’d be a crime not to talk about them. This will be a two-parter, so keep your eyes out in another two weeks for the second part. For now, let’s talk about some of the upcoming films of spring and summer 2023!

Starting with the spring, while there are a lot of movies coming out, all can be surpassed by one: The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Yes, it’s yet another Chris Pratt film, but seriously this movie looks like it’s gonna be good. After Illumination has had extreme success with the Sonic the Hedgehog films, it’s no surprise that Universal is dipping its toes in the water of video game movies. In addition to Chris Pratt, the cast is simply phenomenal, including Anya Taylor Joy, Keegan-Micheal Key, and Seth Rogan (who I personally am very psyched to see as Donkey Kong. I mean, just imagine that laugh coming out of the monkey face!). The run-time is also just over 90 minutes, making for a nice and quick family movie. The Super Mario Bros. Movie premieres April 7th.

Next up, we’re jumping into the latest from the master of movies, Christopher Nolan: Oppenheimer. Detailing the lives of scientists who developed the atomic bomb, it’s sure to be an instant favorite to any historical drama fans out there. Of course, being a Christopher Nolan film, the cast is a perfect fit all around, featuring the talents of Cillian Murphy as the titular character, Florence Pugh, and RDJ (or Robert Downey Jr. for those of you who don’t know him by the abbreviation). With a hundred million dollar budget, it’s sure to be one of Nolan’s finest yet. Oppenheimer premieres July 21st.

Last, but most certainly not least, is perhaps the movie I am most excited about this year. That’s right, it’s Barbie! Let’s be honest. This movie is guaranteed to be fantastic. Between the icon Margot Robbie starring as Barbie herself, and the bits and pieces we’ve seen already from the trailer and production photos, I’m extremely hype. I know that Barbie may not be everyone’s forte, but unless you get sick of pink, I’d totally recommend going to catch this in theaters. Barbie premieres July 21st.

And that’s a wrap! Next time, I’ll talk about the exciting fall and winter movies that will be gracing our presence this year. Till then, I’ll be counting down the days till Barbie releases. I’ll see you in the next one, and as always, Go Wildcats!
