What’s Trending: Fitness Trends!

Welcome back, Wildcats! Trends are everywhere, but perhaps one of the “trendiest” areas right now is fitness. Considering fitness is such a broad term, there’s a lot that can fit into that category. Between different kinds of workouts, various different ways of measuring progress, and an endless amount of fitness goals you can work towards, there are a lot of opportunities for trends to happen.

One major trend has been wearable tech. After the release of the Fitbit and similar dupes, you started seeing them everywhere. According to a study done by the American College of Sports Medicine, wearable tech is still the number one global fitness trend, and for good reason. Most people with a smartwatch have some sort of fitness tracker on it. Not to mention, simple fitness accessories that track things like your steps or your heart rate aren’t as expensive as you might think, some even being as cheap as $40.

The second most popular fitness trend is strength training. Just like it sounds, it’s to, well, train strength. If you’re trying to build core, arm, or leg strength, congratulations, you’re strength training. If you’re trying to push yourself and lift more, congratulations, you’re also strength training. Even if you’re wanting to try to run a little further each day, and test your own endurance, that’s also strength training. This is one of the more common goals people have when they begin a new exercise regimen.

The final trend I’m going to talk about is functional fitness. Functional fitness is specific exercises designed to help you in everyday life, like walking or bending. As the name implies, it’s exercising to improve your function. After a time of decline, the study showed an increase in this, making it the 5th highest on the list.

There are a lot of fitness trends out there, and plenty to try out for yourself. But the most important thing is to do what works best for you. And that’ll be it for me this week! Hopefully, you can find some interesting things to try out as you reach your own fitness goals! Good luck with your own training, and Go Wildcats!
