What’s Trending: Upcoming Movies (Fall/Winter)

Welcome back, Wildcats! Last time we talked about some movies gracing the silver screens this spring and summer. But this week, we’re talking about the fall/winter lineup. There are a number of interesting films releasing (including what’s being referred to as Untitled Disney Movie), but I could only choose three, so let’s get into it!

Starting off with one that I might be the most excited about, The Hunger Game: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. So like the rest of Hunger Games fans out there, I read the book as soon as I conceivably could. But the fact that we’re getting a movie just a few short years after the book? Stunning. In case you don’t know, The Hunger Games is a trilogy where (as was popular in its time) a rebellion fronted by teenagers overthrows a corrupt and evil government structure. The original three books were made into 4 films, the last of which dropped in 2015. But Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes isn’t about the rebel teen Katniss Everdeen. This is a prequel about a very important figure in the originals. The main character is none other than Cornelius Snow, who we know goes on to become president of Panem in Katniss’ day. If you’re a Hunger Games fan, then you’ve probably already read the book, but if not, I won’t spoil a thing. Find out what happens for yourself when the movie releases on November 17th, 2023.

The next one, I am also excited. Another prequel, to one of my favorite movies. Everyone’s favorite confectionery king, Wonka. Starring Timothée Chalamet and Hugh Grant, this is sure to be an interesting movie-musical. The story synopsis is short, stating simply that the movie will give more detail into young Willy Wonka meeting the Oompa-Loompas. Wonka comes out on December 15th, 2023.

And last but not least, we have another Timothée Chalamet movie. I know, I know, but he’s a great actor and he’s been very busy apparently, so credit where credit is due. I’m talking of course about Dune Part 2. Now I’ll be honest. I never read Dune, nor watched the first movie, but for everything I’ve heard about both, this is sure to be a hit. With a cast list including Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken, it’s no surprise that people are excited about this one. Dune Part 2 drops on November 3rd, 2023.

And that’s it for me. Next time, we’ll do something. I haven’t decided yet if we should get back to the old grind of movies, TV shows, and music, or if I should keep doing these specials, but either way, I’ll be here to tell you What’s Trending. Till next time, Go Wildcats!
