Some of The Best Local Restaurant’s
South Bend has many, many restaurants in town. Whilst the big, fast food brands are frequented often, there are several smaller establishments worth recommending. Here, I will be listing some of the best small, local restaurants in South Bend.
The Yellow Cat Cafe is a restaurant located at 808 E Colfax Ave, which is a place to go for breakfast and afternoon meals, with a focus on pancakes and various other foods. The cafe also has a large number of drinks to choose from, ranging from coffee to soda.
The service at Yellow Cafe is great, with friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the menu, to cooks who always make your meal exactly as you ask. The food doesn’t take too long to arrive after ordering, and it’ll be worth it once you get it.
Yellow Cat does tend to get a bit busy at times, so you’ll have to avoid those peak hours.
In conclusion, Yellow Cat Cafe is a great restaurant, and a must for anyone who wants a good meal whilst supporting a small business.
On the note of cafes, another cafe I’d like to point your attention to is Allie’s Cafe.
Allie’s Cafe is yet another cafe, which is located at 2323 E Mishawaka Ave. The food at Allie's is fantastic. Whilst the menu is expansive with options from breakfast to lunch, a recommendation I would make is their Buffalo Chicken Wrap.
The Wrap has a perfect amount of spice and ranch, and it also comes with a side of fries. If you plan on going to Allies, I’d recommend this wrap.
In addition, the service is exceptional. The waiters are patient and considerate and make your experience at Allie’s much better.
Overall, I highly recommend Allie's Cafe to anyone searching for a great meal between breakfast and lunch.
Finally, I’d like to turn your attention to another restaurant that is much different from the other two cafes mentioned. I’m talking about the Big Panda Buffet.
The Big Panda Buffet is a buffet that is located at 313 W McKinley Ave, Mishawaka. Though it technically isn’t in South Bend, it is extremely close, so it won’t be too long of a trip.
The food is a bit bland, but not bad. The main appeal of the food is that it is always hot and fresh, and you can get as much food as you desire. So, although the taste of the food isn’t out of the world, it’s still decently good, and you can eat until you’re fully content.
There are a lot of options to choose from, going from orange chicken to noodles, to even ice cream. My recommendation is General Tso’s chicken, which is partly sweet, and part spicy. Other places have better General Tso’s chicken, but it is still good nonetheless.
The buffet is almost always busy, but it isn’t overwhelming. The restaurant is also quite clean, with employees frequently cleaning tables and chairs. Some practices such as using gloves when getting food are still in effect, which makes the place much less dirty.
With that being said, Big Panda Buffet is a good buffet to go to if you’re looking for a wide variety of Chinese food.
Now that I’ve listed some of my favorite small restaurants, you should have an idea of some smaller establishments to support that have quality food. It’s always important to support these smaller businesses because they need the money. And who knows, maybe you’ll find that there are some that are better than other big restaurants.
