How to find What’s Trending!

Welcome back, Wildcats, to the final installment of What’s Trending! This time we’re gonna do things a little differently. Today, I’m gonna teach you all how to find what’s trending on your own, as I won’t be here to offer my advice. It’s very simple, and I’ll show you the steps for TV/movies, and music.

For shows or movies, start by picking what streaming service you prefer. Next, you can start by simply looking at their catalog in their app itself, or you can look up what’s popular on that service. The key to finding your next big binge or your new favorite movie is by looking at what piques your interest, so scroll through and look for things that grab your attention. Then read the description of the show or movie. Also, look at the cast list. These are things that can help you decide if it’s worth your time. Another great feature that most streaming services have are tags. If you like Romcoms, look for movies with the tags Romantic and Comedy. It can be really helpful. And the final step? Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

When it comes to music, it’s pretty easy. All you have to do is look for the “Trending Now” playlist on whatever service you use. Some services even break that up by genre, so you can look at the current top songs for anything from pop to Mongolian throat singing (ok, I don’t think there’s a “Mongolian throat singing” playlist on Spotify, but my point still stands). Then, again, just look for what you’re interested in. If you like Taylor Swift, listen to whatever song off of Midnights is on top right now. Look for the artists you enjoy. Sometimes I don’t even realize my favorite bands have new songs until I look, and then bam! I have a new favorite song.

Trends are ever-changing, and it can be hard to keep up with all of the newness. But what’s really important isn’t following the latest trends: it’s about finding what you like. Luckily, thanks to mainstream media and the internet, that next obsession might be hiding in plain sight. Happy trend-hunting, and as always, Go Wildcats!
